It's a family affair with a classic kid flick, a Swift tribute and all-ages fly fishing
Maura's Three for the Week in Charleston, 7/22- 7/28
While a midsummer Charleston can have its challenges, locals know how to navigate rising temperatures and antsy kids with inspiration and verve. They slip over to the Terrace Theater and cool their heels in the AC. They wend toward waterways. They emerge after the sun goes down, maybe with a tween in tow. Here are some best bets for the week ahead.
Keep your cool while you train your dragon
Terrace Theater, 1956D Maybank Highway, Charleston, Tues., July 23, and Wed., July 24, both at 11 a.m
Charleston’s treasured Terrace Theater continues to keep families chilled with the seventeenth year of its Family Film Series, which on summer Tuesdays and Wednesdays screens a family-friendly classic. This week’s feature is “How to Train Your Dragon,” the 2010 animated film tells the story of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, the son of a Viking leader who faces a rite of passage: downing a feared dragon. Listen up for Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Craig Ferguson and others.
Admission for kids under 10 is free; all others are $5. For more information, visit terracetheater.com.
Tap into your family’s inner Swiftie (by candlelight, too)
Magnolia Plantation & Gardens Carriage House, 3550 Ashley River Rd., Thurs., July 25, at 9 p.m.

There are plenty of ways to enjoy Taylor Swift that don’t involve tickets to a Paris concert. Consider, for instance, a string orchestra by candlelight at one of the South's most beautiful gardens. Swifties, classical music fans and others can join the Listeso String Quartet and the Candlelight concert series for a magical night, by way of Fever Up. The concert will be one hour in length, and is due to begin at 9 p.m. Attendees must be over the age of eight; those under 16 are required to be accompanied by an adult.
Tickets are available here.

Living in Colorado for six years solidified his love for chasing trout in mountain streams.
