Sustainable swank, a sweet six-course pop-up and Holiday Pops!
Maura's Three for the Week in Charleston, 12/16- 12/22
The annual dashing through the holidays is on, with holiday concerts, inspired pop-ups and plenty of other seasonal diversions at full tilt. If you haven’t fulfilled a yen for holiday cheer, you’ll find many ways to get it going. And if you still have a few check marks to make on your gift list, local folks have that covered, too. I’m dashing myself, so will make this short, and wonderfully sweet. Enjoy!
Sweet yourself at Roxa’s holiday dessert pop-up
Roxa Pop-up, 218 President St., downtown Charleston, Fridays - Sundays during hte month of December at various times
When I lived in New York City, a dessert bar or two enjoyed a glorious moment on the culinary scene, offering a novel reprieve from savory fare that is also particularly well-suited to this confection-centric time of year. This December, Roxa dreams up Buddy the Elf’s dream meal: a six-course dessert tasting counter-experience menu via a Chef Heather Hutton, as well as hot chocolate, hot apple cider and wine options to order a la carte. You can reserve spots on Resy for $50 per person.

Make a statement at Kiku Refashion’s sustainably swank pop-up
French Quarter Inn, 166 Church St., downtown Charleston, Sat., Dec. 21, from 12 - 5 p.m.

This season, I’ve been swanning around town in my gorgeous green vintage kimono, one of the many treasures I’ve discovered at Kiku Refashion, an ingenious enterprise where I go local and global in one fell and stylish swoop. Kiku salvages significant swaths of silk fabrics from designer/owner Susu Smythe’s forays to Japan, refashioning them in restored jackets, dusters, obi runners, bangles, scarves and more for the business she runs with her daughter Nancy. I’ve personally scooped up several of their smartphone-friendly cross-body purses, a clever, fetching gift that is a hit for so many on my holiday list.
