Weather Election Night with Beeple

Mike Winkelmann, the artist known as Beeple, is hosting an Election Watch party at Beeple Studios that is sure to sear this historic night in your memory in epic, weird ways. Free and open to the public, the age 21-plus event promises to blaze the results on the massive screens of his Daniel Island studio, feature an artist showcase and pepper the event with plenty of other oddities, too.

This week, the AfroSouth Film Festival return for a full roster of cinematic delights. The premier showcase for contributions and inclusions of the African Diaspora on Southern Culture through the art of filmmaking, the third annual lineup includes The Gullah Roots and Rhythms of Jazz presented by SCETV; “Youth Creative Kitchen Workshop with workshops and masterclasses in scripting, animation, videography and acting; a night of comedy and song; independent film screenings; the AfroSouth Awards and more.

Raise your paddle at the Redux art auction
Redux Contemporary Art Center, 1056 King St., Charleston, Sat., Nov. 9 - Sat., Nov. 16
Redux Contemporary Art Center is set for its annual auction, this year in the format of a trio of events taking its cue from Studio 54. It all starts Sat., Nov. 9 with the First Bidders’ Club Brunch from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., with first dibs on Silent Auction art bids, bubbly beverages and brunch. On Thurs., Nov. 14, the Artist’s Circle VIP & Sponsor Reception is invitation-only reception is open to sponsors, with limited opportunities still available through Nov. 4. The Main Event-Live Auction & Finale Party with a Studio 54 theme kicks off at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. This is the event everyone will be waiting for and is the grand finale for a week-long celebration of local, contemporary art. The evening will include a lighting experience by Lazer Catcher, vinyl spun by DJ Slowcountry, libations from the Cocktail Bandits and more.

One for the future: Up your game of Mahjong

The Boutique is hosting a couple of renowned instructors of the “it” game of Mahjong. Ashley Gomez and Linda Casey, who have been featured on Good Morning America, are traveling from Dallas, Tx., to lead classes, which are in two parts, 101 and 102. It is highly recommended that you take both classes. (If you have had an introductory class already, or are somewhat familiar with the game, you may skip to 102.) Light Refreshments will be provided and The Boutique will be selling all the necessities for you to have your own Mahjong set.
