HALO’s “A Celebration of Love!” Valentine Concert
The Dock Street Theatre, 135 Church St., downtown Charleston, Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m.
The opera companies in Charleston are forever pulling out the artistic stops, often hosting acclaimed visiting vocalists. This one-night-only immersive Valentine’s Day concert presented by HALO (Holy City Arts & Lyric Opera) is no exception.
The featured real-life couples straight from the stages of Broadway and The Metropolitan Opera perform songs of romantic love, lust, unrequited love, self-love and love of children. Star couples include: Tamar Greene (Hamilton) and Broadway veteran Lindsay Roberts; Matt Shingledecker (Wicked) and Caitlin Finnie (Phantom of the Opera world tour); baritone John Dooley and soprano Shannon Kessler Dooley, who have both performed at Lincoln Center and Santa Fe Opera; and HALO founders Leah Edwards & Dimitri Pittas.

Buxton Books, 160 King St., downtown Charleston, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m.
Chances are the name DeLana R.A. Dameron, a longtime South Carolina poet and debut novelist is about to hit. The Columbia area-raised-and-based Redwood Court has already nabbed a rosy review in The New York Times, status as the February pick for Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club, and my own profile with the engaging, ever-inquisitive Dameron in The Post and Courier. Her national book tour is now revv
ing up, with stops in South Carolina including this ticketed event at Buxton Books.
