Get the picture on preservation at City Gallery
City Gallery, 34 Prioleau St., Unit A, downtown Charleston, through Sept. 8 from Wednesdays through Sundays, 12 - 5 p.m.
The City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs presents Preservation Through Art: Charleston, an exhibition of new interpretations by Charleston area artists of 150-year-old etchings of local vistas. The non-profit Preserving A Picturesque America draws inspiration from an initiative of Appleton Press in the late 1800s, aiming to celebrate and protect American landmarks by collaborating with local artists and historians, environmental and cultural groups. For the Charleston exhibition, artists have retraced the footsteps and brushstrokes of celebrated Picturesque America artist Harry Fenn, who visited the city in 1870. Pro tip: Heads up also for a free artist talk on Aug. 11 at 2 p.m.
For more information on the exhibition visit citygalleryatwaterfrontpark.com.
